On 9th December 2019, in the midst of that year’s General Election, Martin Rowson threw down a Challenge on Twitter to #DrawMattHancock (mostly because he wasn’t then confident he could do it himself – though since the arrival of Covid-19 he’s hardly drawn anyone else).
Because the Challenge struck a chord with his followers, the #Draw... Challenges took on a life of their own, professional and amateur cartoonists badgering him to set fresh challenges for them to rise to.
Since May 2020 the entries have all been collated into YouTube videos by one of Rowson’s shoe elves, but the entries to the #DrawMattHancock #DrawDominicRaab #DrawSajidJavid #DrawRishiSunak #DrawTobyYoung #DrawRobertJenrick & #DrawDesmondSwayne Challenges can all be viewed by typing the hasktag into Twitter, as can the entries to Xmas 2019’s #DrawAKitten and the Spring 2020 #DrawTheCoronaVirus, organised in support of London’s Cartoon Museum.
